Roystonea elata
(Florida Royal Palm) trunk. This one has been "pot planted", the roots have completely grown over the outside of the container and base of trunk now conceals the pot. Notice the surface roots that have grown out from the palm in just the last few months. Compare to January 2000 image Now Compare to May 2001 image . I have also pot planted Rhapis excelsa, Brahea armata, Thrinax parviflora, and Caryota mitis, all with good results.
