Killer Papaya: On Sunday August 13, while Jana and I were in our office we heard the sound of thunder. Our first thoughts were oh boy its "Rain" in which we are in dire need, as our rain fall is down by over 31/2 inches. I went out front to investigate but there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Later that morning I went out to the deck, and discovered that one of our papaya trees had broken in half, due to the amount of fruit that this tree had produced, estimated at close to 200 lbs. The morning air was still, temperatures were hot, it was a good thing that no one was under it enjoying some shade when it snapped in half. I'll miss the shade this tree provided ,but knowing that if someone was under it when it broke, they could of been killed, or at the least given a Texas size head ache. Not a pleasant thought, so I removed two more papaya trees and removed all the fruit from the last tree around the deck area, as we still need some shade in this section of our garden. Image is of some of the fruit left on our deck after the most of the leaves and trunk were removed.
